Our home learning project for Survival Special was to design a raft. We had lots of different success criteria that we had to work to including things like only using 5 different materials. Our rafts had to be able to float and to carry a cup of water. We had great fun testing out all the boats and the standard of design was excellent. Have a look at our photos to see the fun we had!!!
We had a fantastic day at the Tile Barn Activity Centre yesterday. We did shelter building, orienteering and a nature walk.
For the next three weeks Year 6 are going to take on the role of intrepid survivors. Through PE and PSHE they are going to build their knowledge and skills of outdoor and adventurous acitivities such as orienteering and team building skills.
Hook – This afternoon we spent our time working in groups carrying out seven different challenges from being led around the adventure blindfolded by our partners to trying to cross a swamp with lots of equipment.

Yesterday we started a new maths project called ‘Theme Park Maths’. We have started by designing our own theme parks with a budget of £500,000 to choose the rides and other entertainment.
We spent the afternoon sketching particularly nice views of the school in order to scan them in into our prospectuses.
This week saw the start of a brand new learning unit in Year 6 called ‘Read all About it’. Mrs Larcombe came to our classroom and asked us to make a school prospectus for children new to the school.
We started the unit by analysing a range of prospectuses from surrounding local schools and looking at common features.
